A few weeks ago was the last camping trip of the season. I had a spot in Big Meadows which is much more centrally located. The only photo I wanted was a sunrise over Old Rag. I did lots of hiking – 3 miles out and back on South River Falls trail, the Bearfence Mountain rock scramble, and a six miles round trip in White Oak Canyon.
Sunrise over Old Rag was beautiful and cold. Next year’s goal is to hike Old Rag.

Another unexpected treat was the night sky. Shenandoah happens to be very dark too. This is the first decent astro photo I have taken with the 16-35 f/4. I love how wide it is but would like a faster aperture.

White Oak Canyon has to be one of the more scenic hikes in Shenandoah. I’ve had a coworker tell me about it several times and it didn’t disappoint. I’ll be sure to do it again in the spring when the water is flowing. If you look closely, the picture below is of a waterfall. The colors in the leaves were fantastic.
